Teaching Aims: To make the students master the usage of relative pronouns who, whom, whose, that and which further so that they can understand attributive clause further.

Teaching Important Points: the usage of  relative pronouns who, whom, whose, that and which.

Teaching Procedures:

Step I Revision

1.      What is an attributive clause?

2.      What is an antecedent?

3.      Relative Pronouns: who, whom, whose, that and which.

Step II Attributive Clause

    Ask the students to look at the following sentences and underline the antecedent and attributive clause in each sentence and analyse the usage of relative pronouns.

    1.She was the teacher who taught us English literature.                    

2.The boy who I saw on the school campus just now is from England.

3.The student whom we saw just now is the best runner in our school.

4.She has a brother whose name I can’t remember.

5.Our classroom is the one whose windows are very big.

6.I was glad that all my classmates enjoyed the cake that I made.

7.Pingpang is a sport that is popular with Chinese people.

8.Jack is no longer the lazy boy that he used to be.

9.The trees which are on the school campus have lost their leaves.

10.The cinema which you can see on the left is the oldest building in this city.

Analyse the senteences and induce the functions of the relative pronouns. In the attributive clauses the relative pronouns usually function as the : subject, object, predicative and attribute.

Step V. Consolidation

  Workbook ,P16, Complete the passage with proper relative pronouns. Ask the students to do it by themselves and then check the answers.

Step VI Quiz

  Ask the students to finish the ten multiple choice exercises in Quiz paper and check how well they have mastered attributive clause.
