Project Producing a TV show (Period one) 教学设计

Thoughts on the design (设计思路)
本课以写一篇介绍动物的文章为线索,让学生先阅读一篇介绍鲨鱼习性及如何应对鲨鱼袭击的文章,然后上升到动物保护这个话题进行小组讨论,积累一定的语言素材,最后小组内部再分工合作,为完成每组介绍动物文章的写作做准备。
Teaching objectives(教学目标)
1. To learn the passage.
2. To help students to understand the kinds of sharks and the reasons why they attack humans.
3. Talk about animal-protection and prepare a TV show about sharks.
Teaching focus and difficulties(重难点)
Talk about animal-protection and prepare a TV show about sharks.
Teaching methods(教学方法):
1. Listening, reading and thinking to get students to understand the text.
2. Pair discussion and group discussion to get students to participate in the classroom activities.

The multimedia.
Teaching procedures(教学步骤)
Step 1 Lead-in
Review the words.
Show the students a video about shark attack and let them know the danger of it.
Step Two: Reading
1. Fast reading. Ask students some questions about the passage.
1. How many different types of sharks are there in the ocean?
2. Do all of them attack humans?
3. How to avoid being attacked by sharks?
4. What are their unique senses?
2. Detailed reading. Help students to get detailed information about the text.
True or false questions.
1. The great white shark is the only kind of the dangerous sharks in the ocean.
2. Many people might assume that sharks often attack people.
3. In the main type, the shark attacks you because it thinks you are a human being.
4. In the third type, the shark attacks you suddenly when you are swimming by without knowing the danger.
5. The first type of shark attack less often results in the death of humans compared to other two types of shark attacks.
6. Don’t swim in the dark because sharks can smell you but you can’t see them.
7. Recently, shark attacks have been increasing as more sharks are swimming in the near sea.
8. You are 30 times less likely to be attacked by a shark than be hit by lightning .
3. Task-based reading. Ask students to fill in the blanks and help them understand some important words and phrases.
【设计说明】通过这篇文章的阅读,以及一些阅读讨论活动的进行,学生对文章的理解比较透彻,对自己写一篇介绍动物的文章有帮助。
Step Three: Discussion
Show some pictures and a video and then ask students to discuss the topic of animal protection. (Give them some help if necessary.)

and the entire human race
Enjoy a song named “Heal the word” by Michael Jackson.
【设计说明】用姚明拒吃鱼翅的公益广告和几幅动物的图片来引出今天讨论的话题——动物保护,该话题是文章内容的自然提升,而且学生对该话题比较感兴趣,有话可说,再加上教师课上的适当引导与点拨,应该会有不错的教学输出,歌曲的欣赏是对学生保护动物、保护环境感情的升华。
Step Four : Project
Ask students to prepare a TV show about a kind of animal.
Introducing the project:
Producing a TV show about how an animal uses its senses.
【设计说明】通过上述教学活动的进行,学生对本课的要求应该非常清晰,自己在小组内的分工也已确定,为课后完成这篇介绍动物的文章做好了充分准备。
Step Five : Homework
1. Finish your project with your group members.
2. Write a short essay of animal protection.
【设计说明】课后学生个人对课上的语言输出部分进行进一步修改完善,并合作完成一篇介绍动物的文章,达到本课教学目标。
